Review:
While the 2011 sequel was a rehash of the original, much to our relief,
the third instalment of Todd Philips' cult comedy 'The Hangover'
follows a different plot line. There is no bachelor's party, Alan ( Zach Galifianakis) does not drug anyone, nor do the friends get a hangover!
The film begins with a tragedy. Moronic man-child Alan loses his giraffe and then his father. Given Alan's mental instability, close friends Phil ( Bradley Cooper), Stu ( Ed Helms) and Doug ( Justin Bartha) realize he needs help and decide to drive him to a rehab. Their road trip once again goes awry after they get chased by a gangster called Marshall (John Goodman) who wants Chow (Ken Jeong)! In typical 'hangover' style, you then see the gang running helter-skelter to rescue a friend held hostage by a gangster.
While the film is undoubtedly better than the previous instalment, it's not an out-and-out comedy as one would expect it to be. The jokes don't come in as often and they aren't as raunchy. Most of the humour is subtle and comes from your knowledge of the characters, their reactions to situationsthan their shenanigans. The WTF moments are comparatively less. There are no iconic guest appearances like Mike Tyson's either. Having said that, Philips ensures his creativity doesn't affect the film's entertainment value. He keeps you thoroughly entertained as he focuses on Alan and his romantic side! We absolutely loved Melissa McCarthy as Cassie. Watch out for her chemistry with Zach and dislike for Bradley Cooper's character.
The film also essentially revolves around (pervert alert) Ken Jeong as Chow. He bromances Zach, flirts with Cooper and grosses out Ed.
Hangover 3 also takes us back to Vegas for the climax, where it all began.Honestly, what follows is more enjoyable - the end credits! Do not leave the theatre as soon as they start rolling.
